History

In 1803, following the European settlement of Australia, Governor Philip made a land grant in the area for an orphanage. A Georgian house was constructed for this purpose on Brown Road and later extended circa 1914. The building is now listed on the Register of the National Estate. The suburb`s town centre is currently undergoing a significant regeneration through a new housing scheme.
