East Hills is a small residential suburb located 26 kilometres southwest of Sydney's central business district, in the Southwestern Sydney Region. Sitting on the northern and eastern banks of the Georges River, East Hills is situated between Panania to the north and Pleasure Point to the south. A number of the suburb's residential homes enjoy direct river frontage. The T8 Airport & South line services East Hills railway station.
Following European settlement, one of the area's earliest farmer tenants, Robert Gardiner, named his allotment East Hills, possibly after the region of the same name near Liverpool in England. In 1893, the suburb was subdivided and named in honour of the Gardiner's farm. East Hills railway station opened in 1931.
East Hills is largely a residential suburb. The suburb's public schools are found in the northeast, adjacent to Smith Park. While a number of East Hills' residential homes enjoy direct river frontage, East Hills Park and Monash Reserve are also located on the banks of the Georges River, affording the wider public recreational access to the waterfront.
