Green Valley is a residential suburb located 39 kilometres west of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Liverpool. Forming part of the Greater Western Sydney region, Green Valley is situated between Bonnyrigg to the north and Hinchinbrook to the south. The suburb enjoys proximity to Sydney`s outer semi-rural districts.
The original inhabitants of the Green Valley area were the Cabrogal people who spoke the Darug language. The suburb was covered in eucalyptus forests prior to European settlement. Following the establishment of a town at nearby Liverpool in 1810, the area was cleared for agricultural use. Green Valley was largely a farming district up until the 1960s, when it developed into a residential suburb, like much of outer Sydney.
Green Valley Village Shopping Centre and The Valley Plaza Shopping Mall are the suburb`s primary commercial hubs, both found in Green Valley`s central portion. Green Valley is home to a number of parks and green spaces including Paramor Reserve, Nelson Phillis Park, Mihajlovic Reserve and Agnes Healy Reserve.
