Hinchinbrook is a residential suburb located 35 kilometres southwest of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Liverpool. The suburb is a relatively new one - it was formerly the southern portion of Green Valley. Hinchinbrook is situated between Middleton Grange and Len Waters Estate to the west and Busby and Miller to the east.
Originally covered in eucalyptus forests and home to the Cabrogal people, following European settlement the area that makes up Hinchinbrook today was largely farming land up until the 1960s. Formerly a part of Green Valley, Hinchinbrook was gazetted as its own suburb in 1986. The suburb was named after Hinchinbrook Creek, which runs through Hinchinbrook`s west. Hinchinbrook Post Office operated in the area briefly from 1883 to 1885.
Hinchinbrook Creek forms part of the suburb`s western border, near to the Westlink M7. Hinchinbrook Community Centre is found in the suburb`s centre, on the corner of Whitford Road and Partridge Avenue. A number of green spaces are dotted through Hinchinbrook including Hoxton Park Reserve, Aubrey Keech Reserve, Murragan Park and Woodside Park.
