Leppington is a large semi-rural suburb located 38 kilometres southwest of Sydney`s central business district, in the local government areas of the Camden Council and the City of Liverpool. On the cusp of Sydney`s more densely populated outer suburbs, Leppington enjoys a countryside atmosphere and is largely surrounded by other semi-rural districts. Leppington is placed between Rossmore to the north and Gledswood Hills to the south.
The Darug people were the original inhabitants of the area that makes up Leppington today. The suburb is named after one of its first properties Leppington Park, which was established in 1821. Leppington Public School and Leppington Post Office opened in 1923 and 1924 respectively. While Leppington is largely a semi-rural suburb, this may change in the coming decades - in 2004, the suburb was identified as part of Sydney`s South West Growth Centre.
Leppington`s more developed residential areas are largely to the southeast of Camden Valley Way, adjacent to Denham Court. The vast remainder of the suburb is made up of generously sized semi-rural land allotments. Leppington Railway Station and Forest Lawn Memorial Park are located in the suburb`s north.
