Oran Park is a residential suburb located 45 kilometres southwest of Sydney's central business district, in the Macarthur region. The suburb forms part of the local government area of the Camden Council and is found between the semi-rural suburbs of Cobbitty to the west and Catherine Field to the east. The northern portion of Oran Park remains largely undeveloped.
The Darug people were the original inhabitants of the area that makes up Oran Park today. Following European settlement, Oran Park developed as a farming district. Oran Park Homestead was built in 1837 and still stands today as a private residence. The Oran Park Raceway was opened in 1962 and was operational until its closure in 2010. Formerly a rural area, in recent decades Oran Park has developed into a residential suburb.
Oran Park Homestead is found in the suburb's southeast, not far from Catherine Field. The suburb's main shopping centre, Oran Park Podium, is situated in Oran Park's centre, adjacent to Oran Park Library and Camden Council, and not far from Oran Park Splash Park. The suburb features a number of parks and open green spaces, with Grand Prix Park and Grandstand Park named aptly to reflect the suburb's motorsports heritage.
